Introduction to EZ-PD CCG2: USB Type-C Cable Controller from Cypress Semiconductor

Mark Fu, Sr. Marketing Director introduces EZ-PD CCG2, Cypress’s second-generation USB Type-C solution. CCG2 is a highly integrated controller targeting Type-C cables and accessories. Based on Cypress’s PSoC architecture, CCG2 integrates an ARM Cortex M0 CPU, 32KB Flash, Type-C transceiver and termination resistors, and system-level ESD protection up to 8KV contact and 15KV air gap discharge. Available in a 20-ball Chip-Scale Package (CSP) measuring only 3.3 mm2, CCG2 is 50% smaller than its predecessor CCG1 and requires only 4 external passive components, making it a compelling solution for Type-C Electronically Marked Cable Assemblies (EMCA) and accessories. In this video, Mark Fu demonstrates a CCG2 demo kit that delivers 60W over a Type-C port, charging a notebook PC.
